Message from General Manager Brian Elmer

Dear Alice Solar City energy champion,

Welcome to our first online newsletter. Since Alice Solar City was launched on 10 March 2008, we have had an incredible amount of interest and support from the Alice Springs community. More than 500 households have signed up and over 450 home energy surveys have been conducted to assist householders to implement energy saving measures. More

New Solar Power Station to be Built in Alice Springs

Flying into Alice Springs will soon offer people an impressive birds-eye view of large-scale solar technology, when a 26-dish solar power station is built south of the town. The Alice Springs Ilparpa Solar Power Station will offer renewable power directly to residents and businesses. More

Alice Solar City reaches milestone with 500 customers

Alice Solar City signed up its 500th customer at the Smart Living Centre in November, marking a milestone in the project’s development since its launch in March this year. The 500th household to register was Sadadeen residents Kathy and John Boyle who also own a local business (AJ Services). They signed up for two energy surveys - residential and commercial - with one of our friendly staff at our office on Todd Street. More

Save on your power bill by switching tariffs

Alice Springs residents can now participate in an electricity tariff trial which may see their power bills reduce by shifting their power use to off peak times. It is all part of the Alice Solar City Cost Reflective Tariff package which is run in conjunction with Power and Water Corporation, encouraging homeowners to reduce their overall energy consumption and shift electricity demand out of peak times. A no worse off safety net will mean that participants under the trial are not financially disadvantaged. Save on a solar hot water system

Over 70 residents have installed solar hot water systems on their homes as part of Alice Solar City, with households typically saving $1645 with an Alice Solar City financial incentive. In addition to the Alice Solar City incentive, a $150 Solahart cashback applies as well as around $1240 through the Renewable Energy Certificate scheme. All up that’s a saving of over $3000! There’s never been a better time to install solar water heating. More

Generate your own electricity through rooftop solar PV

Over 20 Alice Springs residents have now installed a rooftop photovoltaic (PV) power system under the Alice Solar City project. With a financial incentive of up to 50% off the capital cost on offer, suppliers are working hard to meet the current demand. As well as generating energy from the sun, residents sell this electricity back to Power and Water at a premium, providing even more economic incentive to ‘go solar’. More

Alice Solar City receives funding through the Australian Government's Solar Cities Program and is managed by a consortium of local organisations.
